The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health is a charity established by Royal Charter, responsible for the training and examination of paediatricians in the UK with over 12,000 members both in the UK and overseas.
RCPCH regarded a new web presence as a vital part of its strategy of brand enhancement, from being a member organisation focused on professional training and exams, to becoming the first port of call for all those interested in paediatrics and child health.
Through our Digital Strategy workshops, we helped the College define and shape this new web presence, and worked closely with all departments to see how it could be organised to make their rich and uniquely authoritative content more approachable, and easier to find and use.
The College took an open, collaborative approach to its new plans, involving both staff and members at every stage – a process that involved us too: not just engaging with the web project team but presenting and explaining the outcomes to the Executive Committee, to the entire staff, and finally to the membership through a series of webinars.
Much of the content and structure of the old RCPCH site had been based around the internal processes of the College: a user-centred approach was unfamiliar to many of the staff. While our development team builds the site itself, a consultant is working closely with the internal team to find a new voice for the College and training many members of staff across the College in writing for the web and CMS use in order to rework their material to fit the new, broader vision.
